Torch festival of Yi in Liangshan Mountain (south of Sichuan)
Aug 07 Arrival in Guiyang.
If enough time we can visit a tea house. Overnight in Guiyang.
Aug 08 Guiyang – Liupanshui
Drive to the west part of Guizhou, discover the old Han Chinese in stone castle, and appreciate the Ground Opera. They are the descendants of soldiers from today’s Nanjing-east of china in Ming dynasty. Being pride of forefather’s advanced culture, they, especially female, still dress blue robe, which was typical garment and imperial color of Ming dynasty. The soldiers also brought the opera to Guizhou to entertain them. It used to be the ancestor of Beijing opera playing on ground.
Visit the Huangguoshu waterfall. Then drive to Liupanshui. Overnight in Liupanshui.
Aug 09 Liupanshui – Weining.
Drive to Weining, the roof of Guizhou,2200 meters high.
Boat trip on Caohai(Grassy Lake) lake, it’s birds’ paradise on winter. Then discover the Yi village. Overnight in Weining.
Aug 10 Weining – Huize
Discover the Big flower Miao village, where the villagers are christens, converted by English missionary, Mr.Samuel Pollard, a century ago.
We leave Guizhou and drive to Yunnan province, we’ll stop at Huize, which is a nice town with a long history. Stay at Huize.
Aug 11 Huize – Ningnan
Visit the Confucian temple, ancient Guild halls in Huize, stop at Nagu ancient town to visit the Yunfeng Buddhist temple, then we’ll across the Yangtze river and enter in the south part of Xichuan, the area of Liangshan(cool mountain) mountain, where is the country of Yi, different Yi groups live here since long time ago. Saty at Ninnan.
Aug 12 Ningnan – Puge
Wonderful landscape of Liangshan Mountain, with the high altitute(over 3000 meters), the lifestyle of Black Yi people is just like Tibetains, we can see the local market which gather the villagers with their nice dress. Since it’s near the period of Torch Festival, perhaps we can see more activities in different villages. Stay at Puge.
